A little history

Created in 1854 from Bexar, Goliad, and San Patricio counties; named for Henry W. Karnes, Texas Revolution cavalry officer. Panna Maria, founded 1854, is the oldest permanent Polish settlement in the United States. Karnes is the heart of the Eagle Ford Shale Karnes Trough, the most prolific oil window in the play.
